    Default Fuel Gauge Problems

My boat fuel gauge reads empty with the key off. All the way full with the key on even though the tank is 1/4 full. I've replaced the gauge, sending unit, and wire from the gauge to the sending unit. Any ideas how to fix this?

Is the ground wire to the fuel tank intact? If there is not a low resistance path to ground (negative terminal on the battery) the gauge could act like that.

Also here is a good troubleshooting guide that should help you narrow down the problem as well. It is possible that it could be in the switch as well.
