    Default Oil Pressure Gauge

Bayliner 175 Mercruiser 3.0. Last time out noticed the pressure gauge was pegged over at 80psi. Replaced the sending unit and pressure gauge still pegged. Waiting for new gauge to show this week recently ordered and hoping it is a faulty gauge and not a stuck pressure release valve or something bad like that.

When I turn the key it automatically goes right up to 80 so I believe it's the gauge. The engine is not even on and it's showing 80psi

I am not a "mechanical guy" I read alot of posts and simply don't understand some of the things "mechanical" guys are talking about.
Anybody have any experience with this and if so can you explain in super simple terms other methods to test and locate the problem.
Note - when you say "ground the sending wire" and stuff like that I don't know what that means. LOL so please explain in more detail on what to do.

thanks in advance for your help and looking forward to the forum.

Jack it could be a grounded wire, I wouldn't install the new gauge yet until you follow the troubleshooting in this article Troubleshooting Those Pesky Marine Gauges! - BoatingHowTo.com it may save you some money.

Bad gauge. Replaced and working well. Also replaced the volt gauge that has not worked in quite some time. Expensive little buggers though.

    Thanks
