I'm fairly new to boating, according to my skill level, very new. I still have trouble getting up on plane, etc..

I have a love for boats, as far back as I can remember, parents never had one, but a friend's Dad did when I was growing up, would go out on his boat off of Long Island.

Purchased my 1st boat at 19 years old, a 1988 Proline 17 cc, ended up being a big mistake. Fast forward 10 years, I own my 2nd boat, '97 202 sportsman, just put on a new Suzuki 150.

    Hope to learn some stuff.

That is a nice looking boat and a good size to learn with. 150 hp should get you up on a plane pretty damn quick but remember, when you are planning, you are bouncing over the water rather than cutting through it so waves give you a jolt rather than a nice rocking motion. Ok if you hit them straight on but they can throw you about pretty roughly if you hit them at a angle. Make sure that anyone (including you) is sitting down when you are zipping along unless the water is as calm as it is in your picture.

There is a video of some hero with a boat full of "Miss Melanoma's of 1992" hitting a wave, with disastrous results somewhere on this site. Perhaps it should be found and made a sticky for all of us boaters?
